How it’s built

Layout
A pale editorial page has a slim full-width header. Below it, a near-even split pairs a broad text column on the left with a detailed illustrated garden on the right. The left column layers a small tracked category line, large serif title, short serif tagline, two simple links and a thin-rule footer; a small replay label sits near its bottom. A separate bottom bar holds previous, page count/title and next. A tiny pause control outside the page boundary appears to be presentation framing.
Type
Large high-contrast serif title with a smaller serif tagline; small tracked sans labels/navigation and compact controls. Exact font and sizes unknown.
Color and surface
Warm off-white surface with dark gray type; illustrated garden uses muted greens, stone neutrals and red-orange torii. No CSS colors measured.
Components
Slim header/navigation, split editorial hero, text/actions, detailed illustration, replay label and page-navigation bar.

What makes it work

  • Parallel text-and-illustration split
  • Clear hierarchy from small category line to large serif title and short tagline
  • Distinct bottom sequence/navigation bar
On a new subjectFor a natural-history field journal, pair a left editorial text column with a detailed habitat illustration on the right, use a small category line and serif title, and frame it with a header and discrete page-navigation bar. Replace shrine/travel subject matter.

Live behavior

Today
Pale framed editorial spread with thin rules: large dark serif GoShuin on left and a blue book-cover panel over patterned cream and gold imagery on right. Header and page controls frame composition.
Responsive
Tablet retains split columns; mobile stacks the text above cover and keeps bottom page navigation.
